Skateboards are sports equipment used for the activity of skateboarding. A skateboard consists of a specially designed maple wood board combined with a polyurethane coating in order to have smoother slides and stronger durability. Most skateboards are made with 7 plies of this wood. 

Many skateboards exist with exotic or alternative constructions. Traditional complete skateboards consist of the deck (often with grip tape applied on top to enhance traction), trucks (with urethane bushings), wheels (with sealed bearings), nuts, and bolts to fasten the truck and wheel assembly to the bottom of the deck. Recently, electric skateboards have appeared. These no longer require the propelling of the skateboard by means of the feet; rather an electric motor propels the board, fed by an electric battery. 

The board types depend largely upon their desired function. The two common types of skateboards are the longboard and the shortboard. Longboards are the type of skateboard with longer wheelbases (over 33 inches long) and larger, softer wheels. Shortboards are the type of skateboard that commonly have a rectangular shape kick tail at the back and a rounded nose in the front. They are usually less than 34 inches long. Besides, longboards are usually faster and are mostly used for cruising and racing, while shortboards are mostly used for doing tricks.

Teks di atas membahas tentang skateboards secara umum. 

2. D. It is perfect for speed competition.

Besides, longboards are usually faster and are mostly used for cruising and racing, while shortboards are mostly used for doing tricks. (Terjemahan: Selain itu, longboard biasanya lebih cepat dan banyak digunakan untuk menjelajah dan balapan, sedangkan shortboard kebanyakan digunakan untuk melakukan trik.)

Pembahasan jawaban: 

• Pilihan A bisa menjadi opsi yang benar. Di paragraf 2 disebutkan beberapa bagian (parts) dari skateboard: deck, trucks, wheels, nuts & bolts.
• Namun, pilihan B pun juga bisa menjadi jawaban yang tepat. Dilihat dari kalimat pertama, paragraf ini mestinya membahas tentang `construction` dari skateboard. Kata `construction` sendiri memiliki beberapa arti. Arti pertama ialah: proses pembangunan. Kalau makna ini dipakai, make pilihan B cenderung tidak bisa menjadi jawaban, karena di paragraf ke 2 sama sekali tidak membahas adanya sebuah proses. Akan tetapi, kata `construction` bisa pula dimaknai `strucktur atau material/bahan`. Nah, bagian-bagian (parts) dari skateboard tentunya bisa juga dipahami sebagai `struktur`. Selain itu, kata `alternative` di kalimat pertama mengarah ke dua jenis skateboard: Traditional complete skateboards & electric skateboards.
• Olehnya, pilihan A dan B memungkinkan untuk menjadi jawaban. 
• Saran kami untuk para guru, jika ingin menggunakan soal ini, sebaiknya pilihan B diganti dengan model jawaban lain atau dihilangkan saja.
